Asian Canadian Studies in the Here and Now

In the here and now, Asian Canadian Studies stands as an evolving and multidimensional field that brings together scholarship, community engagement, and public discourse. On Monday, October 20, join us for the ACRE Graduate Fellows Program’s opening event: Asian Canadian Studies in the Here and Now, an in-person panel discussion with faculty members reflecting on how the field has developed and where it might go next.

This event will feature a special conversation among John Paul Catungal, (Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice), Christine Kim (Department of English Language and Literatures), and Renisa Mawani (Department of Sociology). Drawing on their research, teaching, and community work, the panelists will share scholarly insights into the intellectual and political commitments that shape Asian Canadian Studies, its uneven institutionalization, and what it means to engage the field in the “here and now.”

This is a rare opportunity to interact directly with scholars who are shaping and reimagining the discipline today. Whether you are a student, a researcher, an alum, or a community member interested in the intersections of culture, history, and social change, we warmly invite you to take part.
