Disturbing Asians: A Horror Film Screening

The Asian Canadian and Asian Migration Studies program is excited to announce our very first Halloween horror film screening on Thursday October 28, 2021, 4:00-6:40pm. Partnering with the Department of Theatre and Film, we will be hosting the screening in-person and on campus at the Royal Bank Theatre in Chan Centre.

We will be screening ACAM and Theatre & Film faculty Dr. Mila Zuo’s short film Carnal Orient, followed by award winning filmmaker Karen Lam’s feature length film The Curse of Willow Song. Carnal Orient has earned Special Mention Experimental Film at the 2016 DisOrient Asian American Film Festival. The Curse of Willow Song has won the Best BC Film Award in the 2020 Vancouver International Film Festival. There will be a moderated Q&A with both filmmakers after the screening.

The event is free and open to the public.  Seating is limited – please visit our event page at UBC Tickets to reserve your ticket in advance.  The health and safety of our guests remain our top priority and so, we are following the guidance provided by UBC and the Province of British Columbia’s BC Restart Plan. Please note that for this event we have decided to keep the room capacity at 50%, and we will require all our guests to wear non-medical masks and have proof of vaccination accompanied with a government-issued ID upon entrance.
