Hope + Healing + Humanity: Envisioning Asian Canadian Futures

Against growing political tensions, ongoing barriers to community-building, and lingering grief from the social upheaval of the pandemic, the 2024/25  ACAM Dialogues cohort has spent the last year discussing how healing has shown up in our lives. We have found healing in the people and places we love, the communities we belong to, but also in spaces where we may not have expected to find it, made possible by the unique ways that individuals have carved out opportunities for healing. Inspired by the hope and healing we find from our neighbourhoods to the classroom, we have asked ourselves: as students, how can we participate in creating healthy futures for our communities from whatever path we may take?

In this event, we engage with guest speakers Ayaka Yoshimizu (UBC Asian Studies), Gurkirat Singh (Team SOUDA), and Erie Maestro (Migrante BC and NPC3) in a panel discussion to envision what healing can look like across various domains of community life. The panel and Q&A will focus on the work of community building in various spaces, from culturally-sensitive substance use disorder recovery, to academia, to advocating for migrant rights. In line with our theme of envisioning our futures, we follow our panel discussion with a community art-build, where we will invite our participants to process their reflections from the event and their personal hopes, wishes, and imaginations for ourselves and those we love onto a community vision board.

This event is free to attend and open to all interested attendees (UBC and beyond). As the venue capacity is limited, please RSVP using the form below. Light refreshments will be provided.
